Komorebi - the Japanese expression for the sunlight as it filters through the trees.
I began painting this collection as my community entered the four month long lockdown June 2021. As a mum to a five week old and three year old, solace [as always] was found in the fleeting moments of my art practice and the rhythms of the bushland surrounding my home. During these days I found myself drawn to the trees and their shadows, inspired by the beauty of contrast between light and dark. In such a dark time in history I reflected on how sometimes to appreciate the good times we must have the contrast of the bad times. For me these works were my light in the dark. My sunlight that filtered through the trees.
